Foundation Events

 

 

Spring Swing Golf Tournament

 

The Spring Swing originated in 2005 as a 2-man best ball tournament organized as a Quincy High school senior project.  Proceeds of the tournament go to the Hospital Foundation.  This annual event is held in April.

 

 

 

 

Red Wine and Blues

 

Red Wine and Blues originated in 2007 as a social evening featuring delicious food, great, live music and fine wine.  Red Wine and Blues moves around the Quincy Valley from year to year to capitalize on the natural beauty throughout the Columbia Basin.  Proceeds from the evening go to the Hospital Foundation.  This annual event is held in July.

 

 

 

 

Night of Lights Auction

 

The Night of Lights auction is a bi-annual benefit dinner/auction held in Quincy.  All proceeds from the auction go to the Hospital Foundation.  This annual event is held in December.

Foundation Board Members

 

Michele Wurl, Executive Director

Michele was raised in Champaign, IL and began her moved westward when she moved to Lawrence, KS for college.  In 1994 she graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.A. in psychology and began working in a small community health organization.  In 1995 Michele continued her treck westward and moved to Seattle to work for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as a Project Manager.

 

In 2006, Michele and her husband decided to return to Quincy, her husband's home town, to raise their two children.  In addition to serving as Executive Director of the Foundation, Michele is the Marketing Director for Quincy Valley Medical Center.  Michele also serves on the Quincy Farmer Consumer Awareness Day committee and spends her time volunteering at her children's schools.

 

 

 

Verna Teeter, President

Verna Teeter has been a Quincy resident for over 25 years.  Currently she is newly retired from a twenty year career at Quincy Valley Medical Center where she served as a childbirth educator, social services director and quality improvement coordinator. 

 

Verna has a masters degree in counseling psychology and until retirement has been actively involved in the administrative team at the hospital.  She has been a Foundation member since 2003 and is passionate about the success of the hospital and health care for the community.

 

Ron Stadig, Vice-President

Ron has been a full-time Quincy resident since he and his wife Linda "retired" from their Seattle professions in 2006.  He brings over 40 years of experience in retail, wholesale sales and management to the Foundation board.

 

Ron currently is the proprietor of the Grape Quincy Wine Cellar and is a member of the Quincy Rotary.  Ron has also served on numerous home owners associations.  He joined the Hospital Foundation in 2008.

 

David Thomsen, Treasurer

David has a B.A. in Business Administration from Washington State University and still proudly wears his crimson and grey.  He is a Senior Manager at LeMaster Daniels, where he began working in 1994. David specializes in the agriculture and construction industries. Though he’s long since left the family farm, David still helps his dad with the fall harvest each year.  

 

David joined the Foundation Board in 2001.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Washington Society of CPAs.  He serves as treasurer for both the Quincy Valley Hospital Foundation and the Rotary Club.

 

Dalene Kunkel, Secretary

Dalene graduated from Quincy High School in 1977 then from Central Washington University in 1988 with a degree in accounting. She is currently employed by LeMaster & Daniels as a CPA for the past 20 years and serves as the Secretary for the Hospital Foundation.

 

Dalene has been married to her husband Larry for over 25 years and they have three children, all born in the Quincy Hospital. Their children are very active in sports (basketball and track) and she enjoys cooking and gardening.

 

Larry Aliment, Director

Larry Aliment, a 1962 graduate from Kent Meridian High School was employed in various service and sales positions throughout the 1960's to the 1990's.  He successfully managed sales in Bremerton and Auburn for Armstrong Homes.  Subsequently he became field coordinator and executive sales manager for City Transfer, Inc., a Puget Sound heavy equipment/sand & gravel company where he was responsible for management of 175 truck drivers. Owning property near Quincy since 1987, he and his family became full time residents in 2002. 

 

Larry's volunteer activities include membership in Quincy Rotary for 5 years, President of the Quincy Valley Medical Center Foundation, assistant coach for the Quincy High School Boy's Golf Team and Advisory Committee for the Quincy School District Board.  Larry is currently a Windermere Realtor specializing in recreation properties in the Central Basin. He and his wife have 4 children and 3 grandchildren.

 

Justin Ashley, Director (since 2008)

Justin grew up in Spokane, WA where he graduated from Mead High School. In 1999 he graduated from Eastern Washington University with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. Upon graduating Justin was commissioned as an officer in the US Army, where he served as a Captain for six years, served in Iraq for one year and was awarded the Bronze Star.

 

Upon his discharge from the Army Justin returned to school to earn his MBA from St. Martin’s University. Justin is a financial advisor for Edwards Jones in Quincy. Along with serving on the Foundation Board, Justin is a member of Quincy Rotary and the American Legion. He is married and has two children.

 

 

Carol Bryan, Director (since 2008)

Carol was born in Oak Park, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois with honors in Sociology. In 1964, she married Vince Bryan, a medical student and the couple had four children.  Halfway through Vince’s medical training, he was drafted by the Navy, which brought  the family to Washington State, and determined their choice of residence thereafter.  They bought property outside Quincy in 1980 to grow vinifera grapes, which has been diversified over time to include numerous other projects-Champs de Brionne Winery, the Gorge Amphitheater, Cave B Winery, Inn and Spa, and most recently, the SageCliffe project. Carol has been actively involved with all of the family businesses since 1980. In 1998, Carol returned to academia to pursue a Master’s Degree in Sociology. Her thesis was on Age and Sense of Control.

Carol currently serves on the board of Seattle Biomedical Research Institute as well as the Quincy Hospital Foundation.  Her interests include ballroom dancing, reading, sailing, and painting as well as wine and good food.

 

Mark Call, Director

Mark graduated in Pharmacy from NDSU in 1948 after serving 4 years in the Army as a Medic.  He came to Pasco, Wa. in 1949 and managed Jordon's Drug for 3 years.  In 1952 Mark moved to Quincy and opened Charlie Brown's Bi-Rite, working there until 1956.  Mark opened "Call's Drug" in 1956; was on the Quincy Valley Hospital Board and helped start and open the hospital in 1959.  He took care of the hospital pharmacy until retiring from pharmacy in 1996.  Since that time, he has been a member of the Quincy Valley Hospital Foundation. 

 

Mark is active in Rotary and is the only charter member remaining of the original membership; he is also a member of St Paul Lutheran Church.

 

He has seen many changes in Quincy and is very proud of our Hospital and medical facilities.

 

Jack Tobin, Director

Jack Tobin was born in Lewiston Idaho and lived in Spokane Washington where he attended Catholic elementary school. Jack then moved to Idaho where he graduated from High school.

 

Drafted into the Army at the end of WW2, Jack was trained as an electrician. At the end of his tour, Jack attended collage in Chicago and the University of Idaho majoring in Electrical Engineering where he met his wife Mary. They were married in 1949.

 

Jack and his wife moved to Quincy in 1955 and started Tobin Electric, an electrical contracting and sales company.  Tobin Electric is the oldest continuing business in Quincy. Two of Jack's sons, Pat & Greg, are currently managing the business. Jack is still an active part of the day-to-day activities.

 

Jack and Mary have seven children. All of their kids attended Quincy schools and went on to college.  Jack is a member of the Quincy Rotary, the American Legion, the Quincy Valley Hospital Foundation and St Pius X Catholic Church.
